Business Grants

1 July 2021 - Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) Top-Up

South Tyneside have been allocated a top-up to its Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) Allocation of £665,264 by Government. This follows the full spend of the initial ARG grant provided of £4,366,977.

As the Government has delayed Step 4 of the Roadmap out of restrictions until the 19 July 2021, this financial support will be offered to hospitality, hotel, events and theatre businesses which continue to be impacted by social distancing restrictions limiting the number of customers in venues. This will be tiered depending on the rateable value of commercial premises occupied by the business as follows:

Hospitality, hotel, events and theatre businesses trading from commercial premises in South Tyneside will be contacted directly by South Tyneside Council and advised how to claim this grant. This is a limited fund so not all businesses can be supported.

Applications have now closed for the Small Business Hardship Grant fund.

Small Business Hardship Grant Extension

Applications have now closed for the Small Business Hardship Grant Extension. 

Local Restrictions Grants

Applications have now closed for the Local Restrictions Support Grant (Open) and Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed).

Closed Business Lockdown Payment

Applications have now closed for the Closed Business Lockdown Payment.

Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG)

As part of the Government support package for businesses South Tyneside Council received £4,360,736 funds under the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG). This has now all been allocated. You can read about how this funding was used here.

Christmas support payment for wet-led pubs

Applications for the Chistmas support payment for wet-led pubs are now closed.

Furlough Scheme Extended

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been extended until April 2021 with employees receiving 80% of their current salary for hours not worked and further economic support announced. Read the full government announcement here.

Self-Employment Income Support Scheme

The Self-Employment Income Support Scheme grant extension provides critical support to the self-employed in the form of 2 further grants, each available for 3 month periods covering November 2020 to January 2021 and February 2021 to April 2021. Check eligibility here.

Coronavirus loan schemes extended

The Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS), the Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CLBILS) and the Bounce Back Loan Scheme (BBLS) - and the Future Fund will be extended to 31 January 2021. More information is available from the British Business Bank website. 

Small business recovery fund

The South Tyneside Small Business Recovery Fund was launched for certain businesses which have fallen outside the scope of previous financial aid. The deadline to express an interest in the Small Business Recovery Fund has now passed. 

Emergency business grants

South Tyneside Council paid one-off government grants to a significant number of small and medium-sized businesses. The deadline to apply for these grants has now passed. All businesses have now been notified if their application was successful. More information about the Business Grants and eligibility criteria can be found on the Business Support Grant Frequently Asked Questions webpage..
